First of all, go here and watch the whole thing. Watch it several times if you like.
Try to maintain an open, non-partisan mind. Turn off the sound so the mournfulmusic doesn't work your emotions.
Then consider this:
Why are all the monetary amounts presented in "US $" and not some other exchange unit?
What subgroup within this theoretical 100 person group is apparently too rich, too educated, too well off, and any other "too" you want to look at?
Where are the physical resources located so that these positive opportunities can be enjoyed by only a few?
What is holding back the underprivileged members?
What is allowed the privileged minority achieve those privileges?
How can you reasonably apply a 100 person village model to a global population with more than one government?
IMHFO, this is not a valid construct. There is not anarchy on this planet, there are thousands of governments, there are hundreds of thousands of heads of state, and millions of clashing ideologies. The US (which is really what the creator of this silly little screed means when she says "American", even though she preciously defines America as being both North and South America) is one of the smaller governmental/ideological constructs on Earth, but the US is evil because we hold most of the wealth; therefore we must atone by throwing yet more aid at all the other countries and governments of the same Earth. Oh yeah, and we must remain aware that even though we do throw this money and aid at these other countries and governments, those governments will not only steal that money and use it for other things than feeding, clothing and educating their starving masses, they will also encourage those same starving masses to attack and kill US citizens because we are The Great Satan.
And still we extend the open hand, not caring if it's bitten over and over and over...
Well, I personally refuse to be guilt tripped by this sort of absolute bullshit any longer. I actually hung up my bleeding heart liberal jacket about 20 years ago. And I see no reason to take it back down. Stuff like this pisses me off no end.
I think we need a good, hearty dose of isolationism.
