wobblerlorri: (Brownie Boo)

My little Siamese cat Brownie told me it was time this morning, so I let her go.

Her registered name was Jaipurr's Fartita of BePrsCrePrs, but we called Kim, and her pet name became Brownie Boo. She was born in 1997, and we had her from the time she was 18 months old. She was supposed to be a show cat, but she never got big enough for the breed standard, staying about the size of a 6 month old kitten and never weighing more than 7 lbs. The breeder gave her to us no charge, already spayed and up on her shots. It took a while for her to settle in, but when she did, she became my cat and never wavered in her devotion.

The last couple of years she's been slowly getting more and more arthritic, but a monthly injection of depo-medrol has kept that at bay. In the last year we had to go to every three weeks, and today she was so sore and stove up I realized it was going to be every 2 weeks, then every week, and then it wasn't going to help at all. The last month she's been really stiff and wobbly in her hind end, too, and she wasn't able to get into the litter box last night, had to go outside it, which distressed her no end.

She didn't eat yesterday, and this morning when I offered her warmed up baby food (turkey) she crept away from it and looked at me miserably. That's when I knew. If you listen, they'll tell you when It's Time.

I don't have the guts to take her, so Mike is taking her now. She's a favorite at the vet, so they'll not make her wait for long before she's free, young, and healthy again.

I'm going to miss her like fire. She was my Sweet Boo, my Booflake, my Little Brown Cat, my Baowler (she has the typical Siamese voice, and says "baow").

My Brownie Boo.

ETA: Mike just got back, and told me the vet said she had gone blind. It had to have happened just overnight or yesterday sometime, as she was looking around and perky up until then. So we did the right thing. Blind, arthritic, not eating... it wouldn't have been fair to her to keep her around.

At least now she's young, strong, doesn't hurt, and can see again... and she's waiting for me when I get there, along with all my other beloved pets...
