Well, it was an interesting night. They decided to meep periodically for Mama or something, and I did my best to ignore them unless it got that certain note of desperation, then I'd check. Usually nothing happening, except Cap'n Jack (being a mama's boy) hollering for Mama.

Well, they put a new wrinkle in the whole situation this morning, at 5 am to be precise. Meeping had been being meeped for about 15 minutes, and then it started getting that desperate sound. So I got up to see what was up. They had all three managed to climb over one of my sheet barriers and got under a wire bookcase, then discovered it wasn't so easy to get back out. Hence the meeping for assistance.

I got them out, then decided to get my pillow and just nap on the floor in there, and drowsily meeped at them. Cap'n Jack is the noisiest one -- he'll alternate between hissing and spitting and meeping conversationally. Strange little cat. I was just about asleep when I heard chirp chirp chirp -- it was Xena, deciding to get back over the barrier and under the bookcase. Got her back out, and studied the situation. I needed something sturdier and taller than the sheets....

Cardboard boxes! So I taped those up, with assistance from Xena (who hung out with me the whole time, hiding under my knee or pressed up against my leg, hissing and spitting). Cap'n Jack immediately managed to scramble over them into the Special Area (why it's so special is beyond me, but there it is), and of course began yelping. I got him out, and laid back down on the floor. Repeat.

Finally I got over it, and went to mess with the computer. Immediately there's scramble scramble yelp yelp yelp. So I took down the cardboard, cleared off the bookcase, and moved the thing out.

Now they can get on the bottom shelf of the plastic bookcase, no other hidey holes, and Cap'n Jack is currently on that shelf yelping.

I'm beginning to recognize their voices. Cap'n Jack has a standard meep, but Xena chirps like a cheetah. Mohawk is very quiet, doesn't really say much.

I'll be glad when they settle in more. Don't know how much of this "up with the baby" lack of sleep I can handle!
