Fuckin' Windows

Well, I guess I shouldn't really complain. I've had XP running on this box since 2005 and haven't had much trouble with it. So I guess it's "normal" for it to get a bit creaky and need some attention.
A few weeks ago I began noticing little lags and hesitations while doing stuff. Didn't matter what I was doing -- surfing, emailing, working on spreadsheets -- there'd be this little hesitation before the system was responsive. Then Wednesday my Weatherbug got hosed up, and the box wouldn't start until I went into Safe Mode and completely removed all traces of it (which isn't easy). Then late Wednesday night and yesterday I began having issues with booting the box -- it constantly came up with an error that the system had recovered from a serious error. Never said what the error was though, and looking at the dump and sys files it sent to Microsoft were no help.
So I tried a few things, and ran a virus scan just for kicks. Found 2 virii, cleaned them. The things I tried didn't seem to work, though.
This morning tried to go back to a last known good configuration, no dice. Tried to run a repair on the installation, nope. So I had to bite the bullet and reinstall XP.
Now it's running fine, and I'm able to run Firefox 3 without being driven crazy by its mysterious transient lagtime.
I wish computers had a better way of running than operating systems.
