GERD and inhaling bile, again...
3/23/10 11:57 pmYep, did it again. Yesterday morning had a massive episode of reflux, and managed to inhale some of the bile again. I'd hoped it didn't get that far down, but nope, I have rattly chest today. So I called my doctor and got another script for Clindamycin, 300 mg 4x daily, for 10 days. She also put me back on Zantac 300 mg at night.
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to need some sort of surgical reworking... this is getting ridiculous. I'm already on the max dose of Kapidex, the Protonix/Zantac cocktail I was taking twice a day before wasn't working for shit. For the past week I've been waking up with that lump at the base of your throat, and a burny grumbly stomach.
If I do end up having to be reworked, I'm going to ask to have the RNY revised to a DS (duodenal switch). It gives you back a real stomach with pylorus and duodenum intact, takes more of the small intestine out of the digestive party, and is what I should have had to begin with.
And the worst part about having a massive reflux episode, besides retching up that horrific yellow bile, burning the fuck out of your esophagus, destroying your voice for a couple of days, and running the risk of inhaling that crap?
For 3 days after, your shit smells exactly like that horrific yellow bile. So much so that your jaw clenches and you begin to salivate as if you're going to vomit some up again...
Oh, and here's a tiny little (sarcastic) rant about the evil socialized path our gubmint is going down...
[begin sarcasm]
Yeah, the goddam gubmint... do you know I went to the drug store to pick up some prescriptions tonight, and I had to pay the grand total of $7.50 for generic Zantac, Effexor, and Clindamycin!!!?!?!???? How outrageous is that! Fuckin' Medicare, doesn't do a damn thing for me... I HATE MEDICARE, fuckin' socialized medicine, I feel my freedom slipping away...
[end sarcasm]
Without Medicare and my Part D prescription coverage, those drugs, even generic, would have cost me
Generic Effexor 75 mg, 100 capsules...........$151.20
Generic Zantac 300 mg, 30 tablets............. 98.00
Generic Clindamycin 300 mg, 40 capsules....... 106.24
GRAND TOTAL...................................$355.44
Thanks to Part D, I paid $2.50 for each of the above prescriptions. Total $7.50.
I hope and pray one day we do have a health care system where everyone can get their drugs as cheaply as I just did. The bill Obama signed today is a giant step toward that system becoming a reality.
(BTW, I know Medicare co-pay for prescriptions is $8, but because my Part D provider is Silverscript Caremark, who owns CVS Pharmacies, I get a super reduced price when I fill a script at a CVS. Which I do.)
