Mystery Beau!

He's discovering that he's not only allowed to jump up on counters and furniture, but that he's allowed to crawl under the quilt if he so desires. My poor boy, I think he was hit in his former "home" for getting up on counters, tables, furniture, beds, basically everywhere a cat is supposed to be, and I think it was a man who hit and yelled at him, which explains why Beau's been afraid of Mike and Patrick... poor little boy, I don't understand how anyone could be mean to this sweet little guy.

This morning he was chasing Jacky, and they galloped across my bed. I rose up a bit and said, "Good morning, BeauBeau," and you'd have thought I'd called him everything except a Child of God. He slunk off the bed and scooted under my dresser, and cowered there until I crooned to him and told him it was okay, he could be on beds. Right now he's bravely jumped up on my bed, and has discovered that my quilt is a Wonderful Place To Curl. It's his fort! Last night he actually ventured up onto my bed and curled down at my feet for a few minutes, but then it was time to chase Jack again, and he was off.

This morning also saw a major breakthrough with Mike -- Beau greeted him at my bedroom door and curled on the floor in front of him! Then he solicited a belly rub! Mike responded appropriately with a big tummy rub and strokes on his sides. Beau's not as quick to run away from Patrick, now, but Patrick wants him to be as comfortable with him as he is with me. I've explained to Patrick that it will take more time, since he doesn't have as many opportunities to interact with BeauBeau as Mike and I do, but that he'll come around.

I wish I could go to whoever had him before and beat them up. I've never approved of beating any animal -- they're so fragile compared to us, and we can hurt or kill them so easily...

I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow for his obligatory 10 day check up, and also because he has a funny spot on his nose right next to his left nostril, about the size of the end of your little finger. It's not raw, but it's rough. Just want to make sure it's not ringworm or something like that. Don't need a bald meezer running around itching all over the place!! Plus I want the vets to see my new boy and for them to fall in love with him, too! He's such a sweet boy, I just can't fathom why anyone would want to be mean to him...
