Still sick...

So now it's coming up on almost 2 weeks I've felt like hell. At least it's not so bad in my chest anymore, it's mostly scratchy throat, sinuses, and daily Huge Balls O' Solid Bloody CRAP being pulled forcibly from my poor, sore nostrils. Not running a fever that I can tell, but just sort of stuck in a holding pattern now.

Plus I've hit a patch of pretty severe insomnia. I can only sleep in 1 to 2 hour stretches, and the night is a living hell of being tired, but not being able to go to sleep.

I'm going to whine Mike into getting me a large order of hot and sour soup and some egg rolls. I know that hot and sour soup is an ancient Chinese cold and flu medicine (although I just love it because I do), probably because it makes your sinuses run like the dickens. The egg rolls are just because I like egg rolls.

Been eating oranges every day, they seem to soothe my throat and rehydrate me better than anything. Apples too, got some nice Rome apples the other day, they're gorgeous.

If I'm not a WHOLE lot better tomorrow I'm calling the doctor. This is ridiculous. Now I'm off to whine about h&s soup and go back to bed...

As you may or may not know (or care), I put in an application to be an adopter of a displaced Siamese thru the Siamese Cat Rescue Center, a network of many Siamese rescue groups across the country. They have a very detailed process, including filling out the application, explaining in detail how you would integrate the new cat into your existing household, confirming that you either have experience with Siamese cats or have studied about them (they're... different... but deliciously so), two references, a reference from your vet, current vaccinations and FIV/FeLV testing on your existing cats, a phone call with your vet, and finally (if all that checks out), a phone interview with you.

Finally got everything done (and let me tell you, managing to get 3 cats to the vet, tested, and vaccinated is Quite A Production; 3 because Jack had been tested and vaxed when she was fixed), the vet cleared me, and I had my interview Saturday, and....

I'M APPROVED!!!!!

Now, I'm having to be very picky, because the cat I adopt has to meet a long list of criteria:

1. male (most of mine are female, and opposite sexes integrate better)
2. young, less than 2 yrs (Jack being a youngster, she needs another young cat to keep up with her, and the others are all over 7 years old -- 5 years' difference in age aids the integration)
3. easy going and not dominant (Crystal the Deaf White Cat is defensively aggressive, so the youth and the opposite sex will ease that, and a non-aggressive laid back personality will help too)

Then there's what I want in a meezer:

1. Wedgehead as opposed to applehead -- the appleheads are nice cats, but I just loves me some long lean wedgie yumminess
2. Seal or chocolate point -- I just prefer the darker pointed cats, but this is negotiable of course
3. Affectionate, loving, and wants to be a total lap cat when not running around playing with Jack -- I really miss my Constant Shadow

I figured this would take forever to find a cat like that, but I was haunting the VASCRC site and found Purrrince Beaufort VA6822:

He's about 2 years old, and he's being fostered in Georgia, which is great because most of the cats are fostered in far-flung places. He's still being evaluated, so I can't ask about him yet, but as soon as he's available I'll be putting in an inquiry on him.

I have a feeling he would step into Brownie's too-long vacant shoes with ease....
