Excitement in the Front Yard

Got woke up this morning about 4:45 am with the sound of a car crash outside. Now, we're at the intersection of a residential street (Field St.) and a main drag in town (Georgia Ave.), and the county high school is on the other side of Georgia Ave. from us. It's a T intersection, with Field St. dead ending into Georgia Ave. We live on the right hand corner of Field and Georgia.

Don't know what that has to do with anything, but thought I'd be obsessive there for a minute.

Anyway, looked out the front door but couldn't see anything, and couldn't see anything from my bedroom window, which is in the front of the house facing Field St. So I'm getting ready to go back to bed, when all of a sudden a car whips into our driveway, and the driver gets out, leaving his headlights blasting into my bedroom.

So I turn on the outside light and go out to see what the deal is, maybe someone needs to call an ambulance or the cops or something. Turns out it was the cops, and there were two abandoned cars at the T intersection, one of them up in our yard just inches from my garden fence! The one cop sees me and says "Can I help you, ma'am?" (like this isn't MY house), and I said "Yeah, your headlights are in my bedroom. What's up?"

Turns out the two cars were both stolen, the miscreants had wrecked them and fled the scene, and now the cops were looking for them. Good luck, there's lots of woods and weird building arrangements around there, lots of places to hide.

The cop turned off his headlights, and we all stood around in the house and watched them race around trying to find the thieves. Don't think they ever did. Then the criminal investigation officer showed up, and I had to tell him to turn off his headlights. Then the tow truck showed up with his flashing strobe lights, to move the cars.

Finally got back to sleep about 7, and slept until almost 1 pm. Fuck me, I don't think I'll ever get another good night's sleep.

On a brighter note, Brownie seems a lot better today, she slept very well and is purring and affectionate today. We figured out to grind up her Baytril and her GI motility pill very fine, then mix them in her Viralys and give her the whole mess at once, so it was just one round of drama instead of 3 this morning. Right now I'm typing one-handed while the other rubs Brownie's tummy as she purrs loudly in my lap...
