Random Ramblings
4/13/05 12:13 pmFarrier's coming today to trim Spot and Bambi up. Haven't heard from the lady who's going to take Spot this weekend, but if I have to keep her around it won't break my heart. We'll just buy a smaller place and she'll be a pasture pet.
I've gotten a little bit worse over the past couple of weeks, staggering more and needing my cane more. It's actually kind of fun, it's like when you first get off the Tilt-A-Whirl at the fair and your equilibrium is a little fucked, your legs cross over in front of you. The only part that really frightens me is having to go down stairs. We have 3 steps down into the living room, and I swear it looks like it's about 30 feet down. I know it's not, so I look out into the room and go down blindly. What's really scary is going down stairwells. They telescope down, makes me think of Jimmy Stewart and how he saw heights in Vertigo.
The other night I was looking for some light entertainment, and stumbled across a Marx Brothers marathon on TNT I think. Caught the first half of Animal Crackers, laughed like a loon. Love the Marx Bros. movies. I think A Night At The Opera is my favorite--I love to watch Chico perform on the piano. I'm the only person I know (besides Mike) who goes around using lines from Marx Bros. movies and singing the songs. "My name is Captain Spalding, the African explorer..."
Going to open the pool in another couple of weeks, both so that I can swim for exercise and as a selling point for the house. A pool closed for the winter looks like an eyesore; one that is open, blue and sparkling, is an invitation to FUN. Also getting a small pressure washer to clean the house and blast the decks, then going to repaint the decks. I love to paint stuff, wish we could afford to paint the house after we wash it. I personally think we should paint the interior, but Mike doesn't want to hassle with masking off the moldings and stuff. Maybe after a realtor comes and has a look he'll be more amenable. The living room and bedrooms have wallpaper borders that are not the most attractive in the world. I think the house will be more saleable if those borders are gone and the rooms painted some light, neutral color. Home Depot has paint on sale right now, too.
The horses know that there's something wrong with me, because instead of the usual rough nudges they would give for attention, both Spot and Bambi will just nudge me very gently. Spot is a boss mare, and usually won't tolerate Bambi being close enough for pets, but today she kept herself controlled while I brushed Bambi (after brushing Spot, of course). Spot knows somehow that I can't really get out of the way quickly, so she satisfied herself with ugly looks at Bambi. Spot's also taken to giving me horsey hugs--she curves her neck around me and pulls me into her shoulder. I'm really going to miss her.
Well, that's about all I can think of to babble about. Life is dull when you can't work.
