Well, the hydrocodones did okay, but they'd wear off pretty quick. I called the doctor, and she called me in something which I haven't gone to pick up yet.

That might be a non-starter, anyway, because I began running a fever in the evening, and got up to 100 overnight. Thanks, that's an infection, not a stone.

Wonderful.

So I just now called and left a message for the doctor. Hopefully they get it this morning, and tell me whether to come in or (I hope) she'll just call me in a script for Cipro or Levaquin or Keflex or something. I love Dr. Eubanks to death, but she's perennially overbooked and running behind -- sitting in her office for hours with my aching back and feeling like hell is NOT what I want to do today. I want to go see Patrick then come home, clean the bathroom (yeah right, like I feel like that), and go back to bed.

On the Patrick front, he's doing better. We went to see him yesterday and took him his Nintendo DS, all his games, and H. P. Lovecraft's The Necronomicon. They've drawn a line around his inflammation, so they can see if it's receding or progressing. He's on heparin to prevent blood clots, and has an inflation sleeve on his left leg to massage it, since he really can't get up and walk around much. He says he feels a little better, but I told him it will probably take at least 48 hrs for him to feel appreciably better. His doctor told him yesterday he'd be there at least a week.

Poor guy, he's so worried about what this will cost. I told him last night not to worry about that, it's what insurance (even his crappy insurance) is for, and any deductible he can work out a payment plan. Also, Tanner (the group our hospital is in) has a patient assistance program where, based on your income, they will write off some or all of a deductible, and this is good for a year. So I told him once he got the bill we'd help him get that going. He probably won't get it all forgiven, but most likely he'll get some.

Called his work and told them he was likely going to be out for a week at least, they said for him not to worry, they'd make arrangements and for him to concentrate on getting well. That's what I told him about fretting over the cost -- not to worry about it, his concern right now is getting well.

Today we're taking him some clean underwear, his electric razor, and various other stuff he requested. Asked him if he wants visitors or just phone visits (I personally prefer people to just leave me alone and don't visit, call me if you must), and he said he wants both. I think he's feeling lonely and scared -- this is the first time since he was a little baby he's been really seriously ill that he's been in the hospital. So we called a couple of times yesterday, and he called last night to ask for stuff. He said lunch was okay, he had the pepperoni pizza and it tasted fine, it was just greasy. So he didn't want me to bring a plate for supper, which was his loss: we had London broil, 4 cheese mashed potatoes, gravy made from the pan drippings, green beans from my garden, and rolls. It was mighty tasty!

So there we are: Patrick's on the mend, my kidneys are sick, and I also have a zit in my left nostril that hurts.

And how are things in your neighborhood?
