What is the deal with Ramsey Clark?

Saddam Trial Resumes, Then Is Postponed
Okay, so reading that Saddam Hussein is incrementally reasserting an "I am President/God and you are scum" is nothing really unexpected. He threw a temper tantrum because the elevator in the building was broken and he had to walk up 4 flights of stairs in shackles, being guarded by US military. Then he whined because said guards confiscated his pen and papers which contained "his opinions" (why the hell would he get a pen anyway? I'd have given him a broken crayon, at least you can't stab anyone in the eye with one...), and his grand finale was to chastise the presiding judge and tell him to "order" the military to be sure that elevator got fixed.
Oh yeah, he "walked with a swagger" when he entered the courtroom.
But what astounded me was that former US attorney general RAMSEY FUCKING CLARK is sitting with the defense team. Clark and the rest of the defense team assert that a fair trial is impossible because of the insurgency in the country and because Iraq is under foreign military occupation.
I have to pause here and wonder how many people under Jolly Uncle Saddam got a fair trial...
The US and Iraqi officials insist the trial will conform to international standards.
Altho I shouldn't be surprised. Clark was described by a colleague as "a good guy gone ga-ga" in a Salon article in 1999. He's also chosen some interesting clients in the past, most notably Slobodan Milosevic, the PLO leaders who tossed Leon Klinghoffer over the side of the Achille Lauro (along with his wheelchair), and David Koresh. Y'all google these if you don't recognize the names, I can't be bothered.
But to defend this piece of diseased camel shit? I'm just shocked.
Lorri
P.S. And no, not everyone deserves a defense, especially when their crimes against humanity are so well documented both within and outside the country. The Kurds and Shiites have it right -- he should have already been hanged.
