Haven't posted a whole lot for the past couple of weeks (except about kittens), and I'm now ready to open the curtain and show why...I built cat shelves!

These are in back of my bed and to the side of the computer. I have two nap shelves in the corner (you can only see the lower one, though), and I made the fleece pads on them. They're also convenient launching points for the other shelves.

Here you can see both napping shelves, and the stepped shelves along the wall behind the computer. I need to replace the supports for the shelf closest to the lower napping shelf, it flexes a bit too much and goes ka-bonnnng when it's jumped on. It's also a little too far from the lower nap shelf, so it's a little scary for Maggie to use.

Beau of course thinks it's the bee's knees. This is the other end of the run behind my computer, and the shelves over the door and around the corner. He's been enjoying the shelves like you wouldn't believe -- he's been wanting Up Tall and now he's as tall as he can get!

He's also reporting to Zoltron regarding the new developments.

This is the run as it continues along the closet wall and over the window. The shelf over the window has 2 really strong supports, because it's an 84" run. I used longer, heavier screws, which came through the other side, so I need to get up there with the Dremel and grind those off.

Jack was the first to find the shelves, before they were finished, so she has sort of a "MINE" attitude about them. Here she's explaining to Beau that these are her shelves, but he may use them if he's polite about it. Beau is agreeing with her, but he knows they're really his shelves. Because I told him so.

But Maggie knows they really belong to her. And she's communicating with Zoltron to confirm the transfer of ownership. That shelf below her is the El Kabong shelf.

There's one more shelf I need to install, it's between the window and the wall behind my bed -- I need to make it a hair shorter because of course it doesn't fit. I also think I need to put another short shelf between the two on that wall -- the gap seems a bit daunting for Jack.

If anyone wants to know how they're made, I'll be glad to post directions. I built these shelves out of 1 4X8 sheet of OSB (I suggest using plywood instead, though, and we all know why...), 1 9X6 piece of indoor/outdoor carpet, Liquid Nails adhesive, 30 shelf brackets and 2 corner brackets. I made the fleece pads out of fleece and polyester quilt batting. All told I spent less than $70. They're not as pretty as the CatWallks, but they're a heckuva lot cheaper, and the cats like them just as well!
