I've been a Cat Detective!

When I first saw Beau I could tell he was a purebred, or very close to, and when I got the cat information the intake notes at the shelter said this:
***OGU. Email from shelter to Fancy Feline Rescue stated: SIAMESE, "DREAMER", FEMALE, 2YRS, 8lbs, COMBO TEST NEG., OWN. SURR. DUE TO "TOO INDEPENDENT, NOT A LAP CAT", PURCHASED AS A KITTEN, FROM A BREEDER, OWNER STATES THAT SHE HAS BEEN SPAYED, NEEDS VET VERIFICATION, REC #24914 MUST BE PULLED BY CLOSING TUESDAY, 1/26!***
Notice this poor boy was turned in as a female!! I don't know if the original "owner" didn't know or didn't care...
He was pulled from the Cherokee Co., GA animal control >:( by Fancy Feline Rescue of the South on 1/22, which couldn't have been long after he was brought in. He entered the Siamese Cat Rescue Center process around 1/30, poor sweet boy, and I jumped on him as soon as he was available for inquiry, which was Feb 1.
After his foster Jo and I had talked for a little while, and after we had our phone interview, she passed on more information to me about him. I decided to find his breeder, because I wanted them to know where one of their babies ended up, and also wanted to find out if there were any health issues I might need to watch out for, any behavior issues, all that sort of thing. Also, having bred horses for years, I'm a bit of a pedigree junkie, and if he had one I wanted to know who was in it! I'm just odd that way...
So I sent out a blanket email to all the breeders in states around GA, since there aren't any wedgie breeders in GA. I got replies back from most of them, all of them saying he was absolutely gorgeous, what was he doing having to be rescued in the first place, and wishing me luck because he wasn't one of theirs. But I got intriguing replies from 3 breeders -- two recognized his look, one has a stud who is almost his carbon copy, and the third cryptically said , "I'll call you later with the story."
Sunday the third breeder called, a very nice lady named Dianne Alexy, and we had a very nice chat. Turned out he is indeed one of hers, and he was placed as a retired adult, already neutered, with someone she thought was a friend. She had a contract that she would be contacted if the person couldn't keep the cat or if it didn't work out -- she hadn't heard a single peep out of this person, who had bought other cats from her in the past. In fact, Beau went with a kitten this person had purchased!
The breeder was absolutely devastated to find out what had happened to Beau -- she told me his name was Alexy's Dream Lover, that he was the sweetest, most loving cat, and that he's shy but warms up to you quickly. His actual birthday is January 3, 2008, so he is just turned 2. She has no idea why they would say he was too independent and not a lapcat! Jo agrees -- he's a big lovebug and wants you to love him too! And I can vouch for that as well, having met him. His breeder had taken him to one show, but he didn't like it, so she didn't make him go to any others.
She essentially screened me over the phone, because she wanted to make sure he was going to a home that would understand him and give him the time he needs to acclimate. I reassured her that he was, and told her stories of the meezers I've known and adored over the years. I think was made her most comfortable was that (a) I had taken the time to find out about his background, (b) I wrote her in a sensitive and gentle way, and (c) I'd already socialized a feral kitten into a funny little pet (Jack), integrated a shy little sealy girl (Brownie), and had adapted our home to a deaf white cat (Crystal). So she knew I wasn't a complete novice with Siamese, especially shy, scared, wedgie Siamese.
She offered me a copy of his papers, but she wants to wait a bit because she wants to make sure everything will go well with us. I don't blame her one little bit. She told me his call name is indeed Dreamer, that he loves jingle balls and feather kitty teasers, will eat the mylar teasers, will come to his name, and is a complete and total lap kitty love bug purr machine.
So since he already knows Dreamer, and is learning Beau, we've decided to call him DreamBeau. Like Dreamboat, which he most definitely is. Now I know he's shy, and has great reason to be, I'm glad he's stayed in foster just a short time. It will make coming here easier on him than if he'd been in foster for months on end. I also now know to take his integration extremely slowly, and let him go at his speed, and not by a strict 10 to 14 day timetable.
I just want to stress it was NOT the fault of his breeder that he ended up in rescue -- she is one of the most successful, respected breeders out there, tries to place all her kittens and cats carefully, and was distraught over finding out this sweet boy was taken to the pound, and she wasn't given the opportunity to take him back. I would have been, too -- it would have been like finding out one of the foals I bred, raised and carefully placed had been run through a general sale or went to a kill sale!!! (BTW, JB, she's closing down her breeding program, so if you wanted to look into some spectacular wedgies, you should check her out -- her husband runs Alexy Abyssinians.)
So now I know his past, it's time to build his future as a loved sealy boy in his forever home!
