Well, heard from the high-powered gentamicin lawyer a week ago... I've been too depressed to post about it. I contacted him after my first attorney wimped out on filing my case.

This new guy reviewed everything, had an infectious disease MD review my records, and they decided not to take the case either. At least they didn't weasel out by saying the surgeon was "too well liked in the community". These new guys said that since I didn't receive the gent for a long period of time or at a high level (which is the usual case with gent toxicity), it would be hard to win based just on failure to provide informed consent.

In other words, it doesn't matter that no one asked me if I had any history that might put me at risk if I received gentamicin, and it doesn't matter that no one told me about the possible side effects of receiving gent.

So I'm shit out of luck as far as suing this bastard. PLUS I discovered that I won't get an ALJ hearing on my SS case until December.... of fucking 2007.

Piss and moan, piss and moan. That means Mike needs to look for a job. I've told him he should look at the tech colleges and use the state provided HOPE grant (funded by the GA lottery) that lets GA residents go to college or tech school for FREE, and find a program he could stand to do so he can do something that earns more than minimum wage. Hopefully he'll do that. It would be great if he could do something that would let him get a job in a hospital, then we'd get good insurance PLUS the cut rates on medical care. Dunno if he'll do it or not, though...

I sure wish there was something I could do from home that would make even a pittance on a regular basis....

Feh.
