HIDA you doin?
11/8/10 05:47 pmWell, had the HIDA scan, and on the whole it was probably the most enjoyable test I've ever had. You go in, they inject the radioactive stuff in your arm (no IV!!), then you lay on the table for an hour while they take pictures of your liver and associated structures. I watched some show on NatGeo about the pyramids and occasionally looked over at the monitor with my pictures on it.
My gall bladder didn't visualize by the end of the hour, so I had to go sit out in the waiting area for an hour, then have another minute's worth of pictures taken. Gall bladder put in an appearance, so I got to drink a lovely Glucerna (they want you to have a high-fat meal right then), then sit for another hour until it works through, so they can see something esoteric about the gall bladder.
Then you go home and wait for the results. I was worried about the gall bladder not showing up at the end of the hour, but according to the Great Arbiter of All Things Medical (aka teh internetz) it could mean gallstones, an obstructed common bile duct, or absolutely nothing at all. Won't know until the radiologist writes the report and sends it to the doctor.
Meanwhile, tomorrow I'm going to call Emory and see if they'll send their report to Dr. Eubanks. Might as well get these two collaborating now...
