Writer's Block: Star struck
8/17/10 08:54 am[Error: unknown template qotd]I think it's all media generated -- I honestly don't think the average person is that interested in the private lives of celebrities. With the advent of the 24 hour news channel, they eventually found out that there just isn't that much news to report, so they made the intimate details of celebrities' lives into a space filler. Then it became fodder for the scandal sheets, and finally there was a whole cable channel devoted to it (E!).
Trouble is, there really isn't that much to report about them -- they're just people like everyone else.
Historical note: the scandal sheets (Enquirer, Globe, Weekly World News, that sort of thing) used to "report" more on conjoined twins, UFO's, psychic predictions, Bigfoot, and how aliens are advising the President of the US. You never read anything about celebrities, because no one gave a damn about them unless they did something really outrageous, like Elizabeth Taylor marrying so many men, some of them twice.
