[Error: unknown template qotd]Well, occasionally frequent. What I do is use meditative visualization to relax my body and bore my brain enough that I go to sleep. This is sort of tricky, because it takes quite a bit to bore my brain to the point of going to sleep.

I have two techniques; the first one generally works, and if it doesn't, I pull out the second one, which always does.

1. I get situated comfortably (for me, that's laying on my left side, pillow between my shoulder and head, cats suitably arranged), then I visualize a jet black field. Then I add a star field, then I begin to move my consciousness into the star field, like I'm flying through them. Eventually glowing objects begin to appear, and I track them with my eyes. About this time I go to sleep.

2. If my journey through hyperspace doesn't work, I visualize a solid black screen. Then I begin to scroll from the top down the color red across the entire field. It has to be completely filled with the color, and I have to actually see it. Once it's completely red, then I scroll orange, then yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Then repeat. I can never make it through two complete series of colors.

FYI, I've tried Lunesta and it was like taking aspirin. Scared to try Ambien. I've got temazepam in case my visualizations don't work, or if it's really bad I'll take a Lortab and a methocarbamol. That always works, but I wake up groggy. So I prefer the visualization route.
