I don't know about anyone else, but regular boxed Hamburger Helper just doesn't seem to taste as good anymore. Maybe my tastebuds are getting tired, but it seems bland.

Tonight I was wanting something easy like that, but not the boxed stuff. So I made my own. Here's what I did, maybe someone out there would like to try it.

HOMEMADE HAMBURGER HELPER LASAGNA

1 lb hamburger meat
2 T worcestershire sauce
1 16-oz jar spaghetti sauce (I used Prego Traditional, but use your favorite)
1/4 cut grated parmesan cheese
1 1/2 t Italian seasoning
1 t ground cayenne pepper
2 cups dry Da Vinci gnocchi pasta (or your favorite shaped pasta)
2 cups mozzarella cheese

Brown the meat in the worcestershire sauce until done. Drain off the fat (I generally dump it in a colander and give it a quick rinse), rinse the pan, and put the meat back in.

Pour in the spaghetti sauce, add the Italian seasoning, cayenne, and parmesan, bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer, let cook for about an hour. This lets all the flavors blend and get tasty. Of course, if you're in a hurry you can just heat it to a boil and simmer while you cook the pasta.

Prepare the pasta according to the package directions. Drain when cooked.

Add pasta to the sauce, stir well. Sprinkle the top with the mozzarella, place under broiler to melt cheese.

Serve with plenty of bread for sopping. Serves about 4.

Mike and Patrick weren't sure about this to begin with, but they loved it and there are no leftovers. Tasted a heckuva lot better than anything out of the box, didn't take any more effort to make, and cost about the same.
