Blood Test Results
7/28/09 10:59 pmHad blood work done July 22, here's what we have:
HbA1c 6.8 same as last time (May 2009)
Triglycerides 186 last time 205
Total cholesterol 195 last time 235
HDL (good chol) 34 same as last time
LDL (bad chol) 124 last time 161
I've been taking Lovaza (FDA approved fish oil), 1/2 Crestor every other day, and the OTC product Cholest-Off. Now, I had been taking Cholest-Off before I started on the Crestor, and lipids from March (when I was taking it) had my total at 195 and my LDL at 110. When the doctor put me on Lovaza, I stopped the Cholest-Off, with the result that everything went back up except the trigs, which dropped. I started the Cholest-Off when I started the Crestor, so I don't really know which one worked.
I'll find out next time around, since I'm not going to take the Crestor as I think it's the culprit in my nagging shoulder pain -- I had to stop taking the full dose a couple years ago when I got horrific muscle pains in all my large muscles. It was over great protest that I even allowed a statin to pass my lips this time around.
So there you have it -- my cholesterol is pretty much in the high normal range, which I think is Pretty Darn Good considering we're fighting genetics here. Looks like Lovaza will take down your triglycerides, and Cholest-Off will normalize your total cholesterol and the LDL cholesterol. Now if I could just get that HDL higher... exercise is supposed to do it, but I haven't seen any evidence of that yet...
