I don't know for sure if Jack is a male or female. I thought I was sure, but I was looking last night, and I could swear he's a she. I've been paranoid since I mis-sexed Little Boy (he was Little Girl until the vet went looking for ovaries and uteri, which weren't there!), so I've been checking obsessively. Sometimes I'm absolutely sure Jack's a boy, other times I just know he's a she. Oh well, I call him Jackie half the time anyway.
I'm going to make an appt with the vet for a kitten checkup and shots this week, so I'll let an expert decide on whether we have a Jack or a Jackie. Maybe we should just call him/her Kennedy. That would cover all the bases, wouldn't it!
BTW, yes, I know the whole thing about : is a boy and ยก is a girl, but I swear you can't tell which is which on this little scoundrel! I think his mama makes ambiguous boys -- Little Boy is a calico (has scattered orange patches on his black coat) so I wouldn't be surprised if Jack is sort of in between.
In Jack Acceptance News, this morning Jack was having his Morning Thunder through the house (how can a little 2 lb kitten make a house shake?), bouncing any adult he happened upon. He bounced Uncle Bill, who immediately squeaked, then grabbed him, pinned him, and gave him a good washing. Then they both galloped into the kitchen, then back into my room at the other end of the house. Right now Jack and Aunt Maggie are sprawled on my bed. Granny Brownie still hisses at him, and Aunt Crystal the Deaf White Cat is thinking he might be fun, but his bounces are a little scary to her. That's fine with me, Crys tends to be a bully to Maggie, so payback is hell.
Mike was concerned that Jack's bouncing of Brownie wouldn't be good, but I think it's good for her to be bounced a little as she's walking to eat. It makes her move a little bit, which keeps her from being totally stiff. It's funny to see her hooch her back up and arc her tail as she walks a little faster to get away from Jack, too.
