Two Down...

Xena just went to her new home -- a real nice young woman from Patrick's work. She'd had a cat before, but it got out accidentally and was hit by a car, and she's ready for another. I tried to get her to take Saucy Jack too, but she only wants one for right now. She had her cousin with her, who has cats, so she has a ready source of advice.

So now Jack is alone. I sure do wish we could keep him -- he's so funny and I think he's decided he wants to be my cat. Xena was deciding that too, so it's good she went to a woman and now. When they came in, Jack freaked and climbed the screen door, then got on top of the wood door, then looked at me and howled. I got Xena and quieted her down, then handed her off to her new person and got Jack. He snuggled into my chest and totally relaxed -- Mama has me, everything's okay.

I held him the entire time they were there. We put Xena in the carrier, and she settled right in. I'd put them both in a carrier a week ago so I could vacuum their room, so they already associate the carrier with a safe place.

I told the lady how to take care of her, and told her any questions or problems to give me a call or ask Patrick. Told her it would be best to put Xena in a quiet, safe room tonight, and work on getting her trust tomorrow during mealtimes.

Jack is now relaxing with some catnip and a bit of playtime with Mike. I imagine he's going to be a little weirded out today, but he'll get back to normal pretty soon. He's probably going to cry tonight, so I'm figuring I'll have to sleep in there to keep him from keeping me awake.
