Doctor visit

Went for my 3 month poke 'n' prod yesterday. I've lost 11 lbs (yay treadmill and putting in the garden), BP 120/80, pulse 64. Went this morning and had blood drawn, so we'll see how the Lovaza has been doing with the cholesterol and if my HbA1c has come down. According to my twice daily glucose testing, it's been pretty steady at 100 - 115 or so, with drops to 98 and peaks to 120 on occasion. So I expect the A1c to be down in the mid 5's again, which translates to between 90 and 120.

In other health news, I'm passing sand in my urine again, which is no surprise given the amount of antacids I eat on a weekly basis. The doctor has put me on 3x daily erythromycin, which promotes GI motility, in an effort to stop the reflux which makes me eat the antacids. I had not heard of this use, but apparently it works for people with sub-total gastrectomy (essentially what is done to RnY patients, part of the stomach is removed from the GI tract, but not from the body). It appears to work by increasing the amount and quality of muscular contraction in the remaining stomach.

So we'll see. I'd love to never have another kidney stone. I passed a small one the other day, I could feel it going down the ureter (sharp but small twinge that made me say Ow, but nothing to get upset about) and I have been sporadically finding small granules and tiny stones on the toilet paper after a pee. Also I'll need to pee but nothing comes out, or it comes in spurts and dribbles. No blood though, a VERY good thing.

So there it is. When I get my blood work back I'll post my numbers. In March my total cholesterol was 195, LDL was 110, HDL 29, and trigs 284, on 2000 mg Niaspan daily. I've been on Lovaza (purified fish oil) since then along with the Niaspan, so we'll see if it made a difference. At least the TC was below 200!
