wobblerlorri: (Evil Siamese)
This is the new threat from the Intartubez, but it's not really new, it's been around for a while. The problem is the bastard keeps changing and morphing, so that it can infect you even if you've got up to date AV and Spyware programs.

I know, because I've just spent THREE FUCKING DAYS getting this escapee from Satan's anal ring off my computer.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about it.

And the only thing I found that actually removes it is Spy Hunter 3.

That's not true, because I just spent another day getting rid of it. It hides in the registry, in windows/system32/, in memory, in places spysweepers just don't always look. So I went to Bleeping Computer and looked at what they usually do to clean up a Vundo-infected machine. And I did it. Took all evening and all night, but my computer is now CLEAN and I have a fresh restore point so if it happens again I can easily go back to a clean system.

If you want my Super System Clean, let me know and I'll email you the instructions and the executables for the programs you'll need.

Believe me, it's worth it. Unless you really enjoy having your anti-spyware disabled, automatic updates disabled, your browsing interrupted with popups, and explorer.exe periodically crapping all over itself and disappearing. Then just leave Vundo on your system.

It's perfectly happy there.

And don't think because you're a high-powered IT geek that you won't get infected. You can and chances are, you will. Vundo/Virtumonde is sneaky and insidious, and most AV/AM products don't detect it. Even if they do, it's spread itself so far into your box that it's already there by the time you know you were attacked...
