For those of you who don't know, I'm officially Old. I've worn bifocals for about 3 years now, and this year I turned 50. Yay for me for living this long.
Until recently, I've had a CRT monitor, 17", which served me well. But I've been noticing lately that sometimes it's hard to focus on the teeny tiny print when I'm tired, and my oscillopsia has been really making it hard to sit in front of the damn thing into the wee hours of the night.
Now, about 6 months ago Mike's monitor (another CRT) died. I went on a search for a reasonably priced replacement, and found a flat screen LCD monitor, 20" square, for $189, which was way cheaper than a 20" CRT of reliable make. It was an Acer something or other, so I ordered it for him. He absolutely loves it. I've been jealous.
So when my eyes started being all weird, I took the opportunity to get my own flat panel LCD monitor. It's another Acer, 20", but it's a wide screen model instead of square. It was $199 with free shipping. I Love It. Everything is crystal clear, the colors are richer, and it's just wonderful.
I've decided if the price of getting old and feebled up is getting newer and better techno toys, then Age is a Good Thing...
By the way, got both monitors from Newegg.com... they run specials all the time, if anyone is interested in an upgrade...
