They're All Gone...
4/30/05 08:11 pmToday saw Bambi headed off for Illinois, last Saturday Spot and her month old colt left for Virginia, and now I am horseless. I'm really just numb -- I've cried so much since I finally realized I couldn't be safe around them that I have no more tears left.
It's just hard to believe that my dream of a lifetime has ended so shabbily. Brought low by a condition that was TOTALLY preventable and should never have happened!
At least one ray of sunshine peeks through the gloom... heard from the attorney, seems their pet doctor was appalled at the "nonsensical" use of antibiotics during my last hospitalization, and is of the opinion that I have a very strong case for malpractice. They've sent me HIPAA forms so they can get my previous records from the surgeon and from the hospital. I know the pet doctor is going to love how my BP bottomed out after the initial surgery because the surgeon didn't take me off all my BP meds, and how my kidneys shut down almost immediately after. Treated with Lasix, and this was about a week before the gentamicin was given... gent and loop diuretics like Lasix are specifically contraindicated.
Like I told the RN who works for the attorney, I don't really mind the not being able to work or go to school or drive so much, but having to sell all my horses and give up a dream I've had since I was 8 years old AND have spent the last 8 years working like a slave to make happen, only to have it snatched away because some inept surgeon doesn't know how to prescribe the appropriate antibiotic.... that makes me FURIOUS. Told her I'd figured up that I've lost about $1.1 million over the next 20 years in income from the horses alone.
I'm hoping to one day be stable enough in balance to get another horse just to putz around one, maybe one of my beloved Spot Mare's babies. But til then, vengeance is MINE.
